It seems as if we're living in a time where people (especially men) don't take pregnancy as seriously as they should be. Or maybe it's always been this bad, and social media just gives us access to see it more often. Regardless, I have some things to say.
Women go through a tremendous amount of things while pregnant. I wonder if people actually sit down and THINK about it. I sure as hell do, but hey, that might just be because i'm a woman that plans on having kids one day. I honestly want my men out there to THINK about it and reverse the roles to see how they would feel.
I've known many women who were pregnant that had their experience/struggle downplayed by the men in their lives. Why is this??? I've heard men complain about the mood swings a lot, and say there's no excuse when in reality that is a MORE THAN VALID excuse and i can happily give more.
1. The pain. If nothing else, men should know how much pain a woman faces not just while in labor but during the whole 9 month pregnancy. Morning sickness is more painful than it sounds .. just imagine being really hungover from alcohol EVERY morning or experiencing that feeling almost every time you eat something. Even if there isn't any food in the system, it still feels like something needs to come out, and dry heaving is painful and can bring on acid reflux.
2. Women can gain up to 40 pounds while pregnant, which puts a huge strain on the legs and back. That can be very painful to carry around don't you think?
3. Many women experience trouble sleeping when pregnant, some more than others, but this can actually cause headaches. Having a baby down there can REALLY mess with your food intake and digestive system which means acid reflux and heartburn are quite common alongside that. (p.s. heartburn hurts like a bitch, let's not play.)
4. Many men will fix their mouths to call a pregnant woman lazy, but that's bullshit. There's another LIFE inside of that woman, and that life takes the nutrients and energy right out of the mother to be able to grow. This alone will leave a woman exhausted beyond explanation.
5. The urge to pee will wake a woman up at night. Sometimes she might not even be able to make it to the bathroom without peeing on herself. Yea .. it's that serious.
6. It takes an excess amount of hormones being generated by and flowing through the body to grow a baby. These rapid ups and downs of certain hormone levels can have a very serious effect on a woman's emotions and state of mind. So unless you've felt this, shut the fuck up with the complaining.
7. A point i can't forget to mention, even through all of this, women are still expected to work.
These are just a few things, but i could go on. If this isn't enough, women can literally die in the process of giving birth. This shit is NOTHING to play with like how a lot of people do.
Even after the pregnancy stages are over with, the struggle for women don't stop there. Between 50 to 75% of women experience postpartum depression after delivery. This brings on loss of appetite, insomnia, and difficulty bonding with the baby. In severe cases, mothers may want to harm their baby and feel so confused as to why when it's just the effects of having a baby weighing heavily on their mental state. It changes women's bodies completely, even if on the outside the body may look nice, a lot of women still experience intense pain in their lower back or even stomach if a C section was involved. Not to mention the pain of breastfeeding of those who choose that route .. the very little amount of sleep .. for those of us that's never had a baby, but have had to babysit a newborn, imagine doing that every.single.day. Mothers definitely deserve MUCH more respect than given.
Men, please think about what you are doing and getting not only yourself, but the woman as well, into. If neither of you are ready for this responsibility, don't do it. Use protection. Oh, and make sure you're not getting a woman pregnant just because YOU want to.
Women, guard yourself and your vagina. Don't be out here trapping niggas ... PLEASE!
If you're one of those men who downplay pregnancy or have put a woman through hell while she was pregnant with little to no support/understanding, from the bottom of my heart .. fuck you.
Saying all this, i must also add that pregnancy is a BEAUTIFUL thing at the end of the day. Think about it .. women literally have a portal from nothing to something, darkness to light inside of them. Walking Goddesses. Also, the happiness a baby can bring cannot be matched. If you know, you know.
